Northlight Studios Renovation
Back in 1991 we bought this building which was originally a cotton spinning mill, however along with the textile industry it had badly deteriorated and was in need of a complete renovation. We sandblasted the entire building inside and out and then removed everything from sprinkler systems, to old machinery. We ripped up floor boards, replaced all the 55 window frames, repaired and replaced most of the roof, built new stair case and much, much more. In 2008 we sold half the building and completed the work by creating a self contained entrance and secure car park.
With big open spaces, natural light from the roof windows, warm colours from the natural stone and red brick we feel that the building has a great working environment for both clients and staff.
On a different note, the building being an old mill had North Light Windows which textile mills often had to stop direct sunlight moving around the room whilst they worked. Artists also have North light windows, because as the light is coming from the North it catches the direct sun from the South and bounces it off the sky giving a big, soft, diffused light which produces cool and controlled value shifts. In 1991 we changed our name to Northlight Studios and this was inspired by the North Light and not as some people think because we are from 'up North'!
